Did you vote yet? |

I did about 2 weeks ago already! Nice to have it off my chest! Here in Nebraska's 2nd district the Presidential and the Congressional races are quite
close. Nebraska is one of two states that can split their electoral votes, so Obama has a chance to win 1 electoral vote from Nebraska. I voted Democratic
all the way! I'm sick of 8 years of Repugnicans!

My understanding is that it's been a matter of pride by Nebraska Republicans that Nebraska was state #50 that Clinton visited, right at the end of his
presidency. As opposed to California, where he found any and every excuse to poke his nose into through his first term, as it was the state he most needed to
set down for his electoral strategy.

FA voted by mail, which was a new experience. I hadn't studied enough on the local candidates, but went with some impressions.

For whatever it's worth, the Grand Poobah of the Ku Klux Klan has, indeed, endorsed Barack Obama for President. He is a real swing vote, and I do believe
he went for Bush last time out. David Duke has been pretty indecisive all year, and at various times has come close to deciding that Barack Obama is the
"Lesser of two Evils", but has decided to throw his hands up and just let this election pass. And I believe Tom Metzger of the White Aaryan
Resistance is for Obama.

Yeah, been there done that.
I just tend to think that cleaning up Bush's mess is a lost cause though. Marxist Wolff What, no mention of planned obsolescence and mandatory accounting? psik |

http://www.electoral-vote.com/ The chart is handy. At this point, I tend to think there isn't going to be a
shift of more than five points from the polls, which suggests... all of the Kerry states are safely in Obama's hands, -- even McCain's hoped for
Pennsylvania --, 4 Bush states are about in Obama's bag, and Obama goes another 10 deep in terms of Bush states he might win. Obama's gonna win North
Dakota. You heard it here first.

Yes I voted - and got a flu and tetanus (sp?) shot to boot.
Now...time to sit back and wait for that surprise Ralph Nadar landslide...or for Diebold to steal the election for McCain... |

It's weird, the BBC is calling states sooner than CNN. Odd to see Obama having twice the electoral college but McCain higher (at the moment) in popular
vote. (9 pm EST)

That 'popular vote in favor of McCain' thing - even if it is only by one or two percent, if that - has been bugging me too.
From what I've seen so far, it looks like Diebold is letting McCain down. (remembering the wild rumors percolating prior to the election about how the Diebold machines would `reset' or what ever in McCains favor). |

Well, seems that McCain just gave his concession speech...in front of a crowd of drunken, abusive KKK members.
Gotta wonder how long it'll be until Obama is assassinated and President Biden is sworn in. Will Obama still be among the living come Inauguration Day? |

What's the Matter with Alaska? Are they really sending Ted Stevens, Convicted Felon, back the the US Senate?
|

Thinker102 |

Sadly, that seems distinctly possible. So...Stevens gets back to DC, dragged in front of the judge for sentencing, shipped off to the lockup, and Gov Palin
appoints somebody else....

Well, NC couldn't get its act together enough to even count for anything at all. It was still gray when I got up this morning, surrounded by blue Va. and
red SC. A whole night after the west coast was called and after the concession speeches. Glad I did do it by mail, esp. since I was also a non-entity anyway
for voting third parties.

Well, that one Nebraska electoral vote, the Omaha electoral vote, is still up in the air. http://www.omaha.com/inde..._page=2835&u_sid=10480262 Missouri is up in the air too,
unless it was called while I wasn't looking, which I guess is possible because I haven't really been glued to my seat waiting for Missouri to be called
or looking in its general direction.

Back to Alaska: the results in Alaska are puzzling everyone. Polling was completely out of sync with the results -- which might be able to be explained as a
product of a sort of "Bradley / Wilder" Effect, perhaps, where people wouldn't admit to pollsters that they were voting for Ted Stevens and Don
Young. (Actually, everyone's been disputing the "Bradley Effect" as a bit of fiction, but there are other examples of the general effect. David
Duke underpolled in his statewide races in Louisiana in the early 1990s, for example.)
But then the voting was down as well. In this year where Palin was expected to drive Alaskans to the polls. Spurious suggestions are being made in blogging comments that Alaskan election officials must have just casually tossed a bunch of ballots into the Pacific Ocean. |

Actually, I remember hearing on the news that the voter turnout was much higher than usual. Still, electorial fraud would not surprise me all that much.
Gotta remember, Howie, that most of the state level and above politicoes here are owned and operated to a greater or lesser extent by the oil majors. |

The Omaha - based electoral vote has been called for Obama. Which confounds the manner media outlets put up their map. Are they supposed to dab a dash of blue
onto the state of Nebraska?
Sassy, you and you alone are responsible for Missouri edging to McCain. If only you had not moved to Kansas and were still in Missouri, your one vote would have swung Missouri to Obama. You have disappointed all Obama supporters, your name will be cursed for all eternity by Obama - heads. Ahem. http://www.theonion.com/c...bama_win_causes_obsessive Thinker: Actually, I remember hearing on the news that the voter turnout was much higher than usual. Still, electorial fraud would not surprise me all that much. I suspect that was press copy and such which was pre-written for the expected news. As for electoral fraud, I am sort of reminded of how Lyndon Johnson stole the 1948 Senate seat against Coke Stevens (and thus put him on a path to the presidency). What is noteworthy, to me at least, is that the only reason he had to steal the 1948 election was that he was outmanuevered in stealing the 1944 election by the other side, who were more proficient in wiping out ballots over here and manufacturing ballots over there -- the "other side" being largely formed of Alcohol Interests who wanted to ship a "Dry" Politician with a penchant for regulating Alcohol over to Washington and out of Texas. |

Mark Begich has overtaken Ted Stevens in the balloting, as early votes and absentee votes are being counted. He lead at the end of yesterday by THREE -- count
them, one two three -- votes. He now has a "comfortable" lead in the three digits. Unless there's something about the ballot that were just
counted that makes them different from those yet to be counted (Anchorage goes first?), this strikes me as an irreversible trend in the direction of Begich.
Mark Begich wins. Ted Stevens loses. The other permetation comes with Sarah Palin having started to send out feelers suggesting she might just pursue the Ted
Stevens seat after Stevens is kicked out of the Senate (right now it's the basis of a leadership fight within the Republican Party with Jim DeMint
challenging Mitch McConnell to have the vote to kick him out of the Republican Caucus). But, this prospect of "Senator Palin" is moot with the
apparent Stevens loss. The other two Senate seats not decided: Al Franken versus Norm Coleman in Minnesota and the run-off between Saxby Chambliss and Jim
Martin in Georgia. I suspect that that 3 digit lead will be overtaken by Franken in Minnesota in the re-count as the "Intent of the Voter" is guaged
by such voters that circled where they should have squared or squared where they should have circled. I also can say that Republicans will forever believe
Franken stole that election in the dead of several nights and the election result is illegitimate. This is just as well, because they already believe Al
Franken was an illegitimate Senate Candidate in the first place.

Well...Stevens is now down by about 800 ballots, with tens of thousands left to be counted (though that might have changed by now).
Talked with a guy last night who was a Stevens fan, when I pointed out that he was likely to end up in prison, his response was, `Nope, he'll get a (presidential) pardon'. Guy supported Stevens mostly because of the `many years of experience' and 'connections and understandings that a freshman would not have or know' type arguments. |
