FA had a call yesterday from an elderly lady (well, 75) who is a distant connection but I have kept up with over the years, and most of it was really a lot of small talk. But she happened to mention that during an operation, she had "seen the white light." She does have some minor heart trouble but it a wasn't deep cardiac procedure or anything, just something to do with a minor joint repair. I asked more about that (this lady is religious but had a medical education and worked as a lab technician and her mind is still clear)...and she said well, it was a tunnel that was more brilliant than lightening, and a man that wasn't as brilliant was standing at the end of it. He had long hair that was also white, and wavy, and then she woke up to find her son looking at her in the recovery room. She didn't have any sense of separating from herself or looking down from the ceiling and seeing her own body. She asked the doctor later if it was the anesthesia or a "real experience." He said it was a "real experience," whatever that means.
I just wondered if anyone else has had a first or second-hand report like that. Also, pasted below is a message I saved from a Near Death Experience Board a few months ago (board has disappeared):

(Below is not FA talking)
I have found that many mystical and spiritual experiences have found shelter under the terminology of "near-death experience." Some one wrote that they went to sleep and encountered a vision of a bright white light. They start calling their vision a "near-death experience" only because they encountered a white light.
I have also found that since the advancement of modern technology, many events happen in hospitals which fall under the umbrella of the terminology of "miracles." A new heart is placed in the dying body of a human and he lives longer. What a miracle.
I found a section on a web page of a church group where they tried to define a "true miracle."

A more technical way to understand this gift requires a familiarity with two theological terms: Primary and Secondary Causes. A Primary Cause is an act of God's Providence by which God ALONE preserves or governs His creation. The following are examples of primary causes: the rising of the sun, weather patterns, and natural disasters. Creation has no part in these; only God controls them in His Providence. And so we say that the sun rose this morning on account of the
PRIMARY CAUSE of God. A Secondary Cause is an act of God's providence by which God preserves or governs His creation THROUGH CREATION. The following are examples of secondary causes: procreation, medicine, maturation and growth. All of which occur through natural processes (secondary means) which God controls with His providence. And so we say that a person was healed by God through the SECONDARY CAUSE of a doctor.
Now in the Bible, a miracle is God bringing about something that ordinarily occurs through secondary causes, without the use of secondary causes. Thus we say that a miracle is supernatural i.e., above nature. God working above the natural processes of this earth to effect His will.
Examples of miracles include the following:
1. The Virgin Birth (Matthew 1) this occurred directly as the result of God.
2. The Healing of the Sick without medical intervention (Matthew
this occurred directly as the result of God.
3. The resurrection of Lazuras (John 11) this occurred directly as the result of God. [excerpt from A Biblical Analysis of the Gift of Miracles, Part 1]

NOW that was a true "near-death experience." Sitting in a grave for 4 days? I think it is mentioned in scripture the state of the physical body when that miraculous event occurred. NOW there is the man I want to talk to. What the heck ever came of him?
The brother of Mary and Martha of Bethany. He was raised from the dead after he had lain four days in the tomb (John 11:1-44). This miracle so excited the wrath of the Jews that they sought to put both Jesus and Lazarus to death. [Eastons Dictionary]
[[John 12:9-10, "Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;"]]
I found it interesting that Jews where also mentioned in a verse before the raising of Lazarus.
[[John 11:8, "His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?"]]
I find it remarkable that this event, more than anything, is what changed world history. The Lazuras event, of course was eclipsed by another event which came to pass 6 days later. [I guess that is if you believe the bible's record of events. Something surely happened and the vibrations of the shock waves are still felt to this day.]
If they where out to silence Jesus, I would guess that it might be safe to assume that Lazarus was silenced also.
