About a year ago a former coworker of mine said her oldest daughter had come home and announced shed gotten a job.

Coworker asked 'Did you have to pee for it?'

Daughter said 'No.'

Coworker said 'Then it's not a real job.'

I have not done the online application thing in years. My daughter is pretty good at that sort of thing, and she's not the brightest.

But once said job is landed...

A lot of the 'big box' stores actively try to screw their employees over: spit shifts, 'clopenings' (last one out, first one in), work schedules that change at the literal last minute without notice, things like that. The system is based on high turnover; employees who last long enough to start collecting raises are seen as liabilities rather than assets. 'Why should I pay this guy $12 an hour when I can fire him and hire somebody else to do the same job for $10?'

If your state is 'right to work,' then the employers can screw over their underlings with impunity. Low wage labor without rights is pretty much the real purpose of 'right to work.'
