Been wanting to discuss this as it comes up from time to time.

Many staunch fundamentalists bemoan the fact that the US Supreme Court declared prayer and bible reading in public schools unconstitutional (1963). This was largely the result of efforts by atheist Madalyn Murray, and other secularists.

Those fundamentalists swear that BECAUSE public school prayer was banned, there was a rise in juvenile delinquency, teen pregnancy, drug use, disrespect for adults, etc.

I don't believe there is any DIRECT correlation. I've known well-behaved kids who grew up in the years following "Murray vs. Curlett". Some had atheist parents.

Back in the 20s kids could be mean bullies -- yet we had Christian-oriented prayer each morning.

It is frustrating to reason with modern-day fundamentalists who INSIST that a return of prayer to public school would be salutary.
