I used to think it was kind of sad to think about us getting a darker sky until I learned that if there ever is a contraction, the growing number of stars reappearing would make it too hot for life on earth, and in a surprisingly short time, like once they increased on top of the the sun to a 1.2 sun or some such fraction.

It's still sadder to contemplate the every-expanding universe just running out of steam and withering away into unimaginable blackness as TIME magazine explained the theory now goes a year or so ago. However, when I mentioned the bleak future article on the board, BennieDeth called scientists idiots and was pretty much upbeat that they really don't know. So I guess we can hope there could be enough hidden mass somewhere to make it oscillate again after all.

Meanwhile earthlings would have to find a cooler place to hunker down for the increasing light/heat transition. I guess they would realize by then (once the pattern exhibits itself and resolves the debate) that they couldn't make it through another bang, but they could take comfort in the thought of being followed by another universe. I dunno, would that make us comforted or depressed?
