As a passing thought one might consider that no one is safe from any form of violence by virture of his/her location. We live in an open society and all the talk and bombastic phrases spouted by our clueless Politicians and our peerless Homeland Security Apparatchiks have no meaning in such a situation; your safety and my safety is a random matter of chance within that time and place and of our physical location within it. Pure chance will be the overriding condition determining what happens to either of us during the remainder of our lives.

When people start telling me of places to go and live to further my chances of survival I am reminded of an old Arabic story that goes something like this;

One morning a wealthy man sent his servant to the Market Place to buy some articles and while he was there the Servant saw Death staring at him. Seeing Death looking at him in such a manner he became frightened and ran to his Masters home where he told his Master of what he had seen. His Master, fearing for his Servants life tells him to take the best camel in the herd and ride swiftly to Samarra where he will be safe from Death. This the Servant does. The Master then goes to the Market Place himself and while there he sees Death and in anger for the fright to his Servant speaks harshly to Death about what he has done
and the trouble he has caused. Death speaks to the Master and says, "I meant no harm at the time, you see I was just surprised seeing your Servant here in the Market Place this morning because I have an Appointment with him this evening in Samarra and that is such a great distance that he must travel."
