Er, I guess weather didn't come up since (yearly) forest fires, Oct-Nov blizzards, and major earthquakes are pretty much balanced by kudzu, hurricanes, and....something....maybe shape note singing? This thread could get interesting if it takes on drivers, food, music, etc.

Well...Stevens is now down by about 800 ballots, with tens of thousands left to be counted (though that might have changed by now).

Talked with a guy last night who was a Stevens fan, when I pointed out that he was likely to end up in prison, his response was, `Nope, he'll get a (presidential) pardon'. Guy supported Stevens mostly because of the `many years of experience' and 'connections and understandings that a freshman would not have or know' type arguments.

Mark Begich has overtaken Ted Stevens in the balloting, as early votes and absentee votes are being counted. He lead at the end of yesterday by THREE -- count them, one two three -- votes. He now has a "comfortable" lead in the three digits. Unless there's something about the ballot that were just counted that makes them different from those yet to be counted (Anchorage goes first?), this strikes me as an irreversible trend in the direction of Begich. Mark Begich wins. Ted...

The Omaha - based electoral vote has been called for Obama. Which confounds the manner media outlets put up their map. Are they supposed to dab a dash of blue onto the state of Nebraska?

Actually, I remember hearing on the news that the voter turnout was much higher than usual. Still, electorial fraud would not surprise me all that much.

Gotta remember, Howie, that most of the state level and above politicoes here are owned and operated to a greater or lesser extent by the oil majors.

Back to Alaska: the results in Alaska are puzzling everyone. Polling was completely out of sync with the results -- which might be able to be explained as a product of a sort of "Bradley / Wilder" Effect, perhaps, where people wouldn't admit to pollsters that they were voting for Ted Stevens and Don Young. (Actually, everyone's been disputing the "Bradley Effect" as a bit of fiction, but there are other examples of the general effect. David Duke underpolled in his...

Well, that one Nebraska electoral vote, the Omaha electoral vote, is still up in the air. http://www.omaha.com/inde..._page=2835&u_sid=10480262 Missouri is up in the air too, unless it was called while I wasn't looking, which I guess is possible because I haven't really been glued to my seat waiting for Missouri to be called or looking in its general direction.

Well, NC couldn't get its act together enough to even count for anything at all. It was still gray when I got up this morning, surrounded by blue Va. and red SC. A whole night after the west coast was called and after the concession speeches. Glad I did do it by mail, esp. since I was also a non-entity anyway for voting third parties.

Sadly, that seems distinctly possible. So...Stevens gets back to DC, dragged in front of the judge for sentencing, shipped off to the lockup, and Gov Palin appoints somebody else....

I did about 2 weeks ago already! Nice to have it off my chest! Here in Nebraska's 2nd district the Presidential and the Congressional races are quite close. Nebraska is one of two states that can split their electoral votes, so Obama has a chance to win 1 electoral vote from Nebraska. I voted Democratic all the way! I'm sick of 8 years of Repugnicans!
